Twitter just crowned its latest manufactured celebrity. Meet Alex From Target, and others including Kieran from T-Mobile and Steve from Starbucks.
Who needs Big Brother or Amazing Race if becoming a star is just a tweet away? Meet Alex from Target — the latest internet star who rose to fame after one customer snapped a photo of him while doing his job.
As of late, no one knows who uploaded the photo first, but according to Buzzfeed, tweets mentioning Alex from Target started to circulate on micro-blogging site Twitter yesterday afternoon. Some said the photo went viral on Saturday, while other suggested that people started retweeting Alex’s photo early Sunday morning.
The Twitter hashtag #AlexfromTarget is still trending worldwide as of this writing.
Alex — I mean the real-life Alex from Target, is already aware of what’s happening on the web. Sunday night he tweeted, “so many followers” and then “now I have to change number” which clearly confirmed that some fans went completely overboard and started texting him through a leaked mobile phone number.
Target’s official Twitter account is still not responding to its employee’s instant stardom, but we’re very confident that the retail chain’s PR department is partying at the moment with a new contract for Alex already in place.
In addition to Alex from Target, other “internet celebrities” started to appear on Twitter like Kieran from T-Mobile and Steve from Starbucks coffee. The list is too long to mention, but here’s some of them (below Alex from Target photo):
