Afton Elaine Burton & Charles Manson Wedding — Her Mother Will Not Be There

Afton’s mother, Melissa Burton, revealed that she will not be attending the wedding, according to Inside Edition. She also added that even though she will not be in attendance, she still supports her daughter. “She’s not a freak at all…We love her with all our heart,” Melissa said.
The 26-year-old’s upcoming wedding to mass murderer, Charles Manson, did not come as a surprise to her mother. She said, “This is something we’ve been living with for a while. It was not a shock.”
Although Afton’s mom will not be a guest at the wedding, we do know one person who will make an appearance — Charles’ grandson, Jason Freeman. “It’ll be my first day to meet my grandfather and my grandmother – even though she is twelve years younger than me…She seems extremely sweet,” Jason said.
Jason was asked if he understood why people were so outraged by the upcoming wedding. He replied, “Everybody’s got their opinion. I got mine. They got theirs. Just got to move forward.” He added, “At the end of the day, if he’s happy and she’s happy, I’m happy for them.”A friend showed Afton some of Charles’ environmental writings when she was 17-years-old. That is when shefirst got in contact with the murderer, according toRolling Stones. At the time, Charles’ was 71-years-old!
Two years after she first got in contact with Charles, Afton took her $2,000 savings (from her job at a retirement home kitchen), packed up, and moved to California to be near him. She would visit him on the weekends for hours at a time and he nicknamed her “Star.”
Charles, who was convicted of conspiracy and murder, has been serving his prison sentence for the past 25 years, and will not be up for parole until 2027 — at which time he would be at least 93 years old.
