Why Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn isn't a stretch

Though Warner Bros. has not confirmed the news, Australian actress Margot Robbie is reportedly in talks to play super-villain Harley Quinn in the 2016 DC Comics-based movie Suicide Squad.

If you’re not familiar with the character…

Here’s a quick backstory from Batman: The Animated Series: Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a psychiatrist, interned at Arkham Asylum, where she analyzed the Joker. She fell in love with him, helped him escape, got herself a joker costume, became besties with Poison Ivy (who gave her injectables to boost her strength and speed) and shortened her name to Harley Quinn (like a harlequin jester). Since then, Harley has had an abusive on-again, off-again relationship with the Joker, and has become an anti-hero in her own right.
Here’s why Margot Robbie make a good Harley Quinn:

She’s played the part of conniving girlfriend, really well

Robbie is best known for playing Naomi, the “Duchess of Bay Ridge” who becomes second wife to Leonardo DiCaprio’s criminal Jordan Belfort in Wolf of Wall Street. Who can forget that sexy scene where she says, “Mommy is just so sick and tired of wearing panties”?

She’s athletic

Harley Quinn is a gymnast/acrobat who uses her flexibility to her advantage. Margot Robbie plays hockey, and posted the above photo to Instagram, so we have a feeling she’s pretty agile.

She’s practiced playing the intern to the bad guyIf Robbie officially gets the part, she’d likely be working with Oscar winner Leto, who’s rumored to be taking the part of Joker. Look at the giant, adoring smile she gives him (at 1:36) before handing him his Critics Choice Award this year.
